The Steel Wallet is a tool for a DO-IT-YOURSELF offline backup of your recovery words.
Protect your coins with our robust Steel Wallet. Made from high-quality stainless steel that can withstand almost anything, our wallet offers maximum security for your valuable Bitcoin. With a simple design that's easy to use and provides maximum reliability, our Steel Wallet is the perfect choice. The ultimate aging-resistant backup for future generations. With this plate, you can store up to 24 words, 12 words per side for all wallets that use up to 24 recovery words, BIP-39 compatible. The seed can be hammered into the plate with a center punch. The plate was laser engraved and then hand-polished, so each piece is unique and may contain slight scratches and irregularities.
The material used is 1.4301, (X5CrNi18-10) stainless steel, corrosion-resistant, approved up to 600°C, forging temperature 1000°C, melting point 1450°C, and is also used in the chemical industry. However, 1.4301 is only conditionally resistant to chlorine and saltwater.
The Steel Wallet comes in a nice packaging and you can get it with or without center punch.
Recommendation - How do I set up a Steel Wallet?
What you need:
- Seed Phrase
- Steel Wallet
- Center Punch
- Marker
- Hammer
- Additionally a ruler
Step 1: Have your recovery words ready.
Read these instructions carefully before starting. Creating the Steel Wallet backup is easy, but doesn't allow for errors. Make sure the 12, 18, or 24 recovery words for the wallet are ready, e.g. written down on paper. All of your recovery words come from the standardized BIP-39 word list. One characteristic of this word list is that you can identify each word by knowing only the first 4 letters. Therefore, it's sufficient to stamp only the first 4 letters of each word onto your Steel Wallet.
Step 2: Take a marker and mark where you need to punch with the center punch.
If your first word is, for example, "escape," you would need to punch "esca." The first mark would be where column 1 and row E intersect. Continue with the first 4 letters of each word.
Step 3: Verify that you have marked everything correctly.
Before using the punch tool, you should check that you have marked all the spots correctly. It's better to check twice than to have a faulty backup.
Step 4: Use the punch tool and punch at the marked spots.
After punching the first 12 words, turn the plate over and punch the next 12 words.
Step 5: Store your Steel Wallet securely.
Once you have set up your Steel Wallet, you should keep it in a safe place.
