We are very happy that we are allowed to sell the merchandise of Bitcoin Ekasi at our store. Through our cooperation with Pocket Bitcoin, who donate all their profits to Bitcoin Ekasi, we were able to launch the Bitcoin Ekasi Collection of this non-profit organization.
Bitcoin Ekasi aims to create a Bitcoin economy in a township in Mossel Bay, South Africa. This project was inspired by a similar project called Bitcoin Beach in El Zonte, El Salvador. Bitcoin Ekasi is an extension of The Surfer Kids non-profit. The Surfer Kids is a registered non-profit organization that was founded in 2010. The non-profit is 100% donation-based and works to empower youth in an impoverished South African township.
In these countries, access to a bank or bank account is not as commonplace as it is in Europe for instance. In our privileged world, everyone has at least one bank account, whereas in these countries, people are not allowed to have an account for a variety of reasons, such as their low income. Approximately 30% of the world's population is unbanked. However, these "Unbanked People" are exactly the ones who are quickest to understand the possibilities of Bitcoin and the resulting freedom. Bitcoin is freedom and "Bitcoin is banking the unbanked"!
To support this great project as much as we can, 50% of the profit of the merchandise sold goes back to the development of this Bitcoin economy in South Africa. We love South Africa and are very happy to work with Bitcoin Ekasi.
